The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner - Paperback
by James Hogg (Author), Anthony Uyl (Editor)
A novel about the dangers of extreme Hyper-Calvinism, the novel starts out with the "editor" telling the story of how an older man married a younger woman and the younger woman was appalled by his "sinful" lifestyle. The young wife does bear him two children, but the second child may not be her husband's, and some questions are raised about the second child's legitimacy.
The novel then switches to the memoir of the second child and how he comes across his older brother and starts to harass him quite continuously. The mystery starts to emerge when a second person that looks like the younger brother starts to appear and is believed to be the devil. The younger brother lives a life without concerns of the consequences of sins such as murder and others, but eventually in some way his sinful life catches up with him and the supposed devil is the one to have the last laugh. The younger brother's belief in Hyper-Calvinism and his belief that he is one of the "chosen" is put to the ultimate test.
