What is J2534? Why Are You Worth Having?
J2534 is an "original factory level" communication protocol, It can do things that the ordinary diagnostic toll cannot do, normal diagnostic scanner can usually only enter the Conventional systems such as: engine, gearbox, ABS, airbags etc . But modern vehicles have a large number of non emission related ECUs (such as gateways, body control modules, seat modules, audio systems, etc.),need j2534 pass through device to access.

When do You Need J2534?

As long as it involves "ECU programming/coding", J2534 is basically required. When the fault code "reads
out but cannot be understood/cleared/repaired", J2534 may need to be further diagnosed, such as:
ECU firmware upgrade: Manufacturers release software updates for engine, transmission, and other modules, fixing issues such as jerking and false alarm fault codes.

Programming after replacing ECU: After replacing the engine computer, transmission computer, and airbag computer, it is necessary to write configuration data and perform anti-theft matching.

Module installation/activation: In the later stage of installing original factory configurations (such as cruise control, reverse image, seat heating), corresponding functions need to be activated.

Emission related maintenance: After replacing emission components such as three-way catalysts and oxygen sensors, some manufacturers require online programming to complete the reset.

Power upgrade/flashing: The third-party tuning program (ECU Tuning) needs to be written through the J2534 interface

What Car Needs J2534 Protocol?
After 2015 car models, especially European and American car brands, for GM,for Ford, for Toyota, for BMW, for Mercedes Benz,for VW,for Audi etc, are generally equipped with security gateways, for some car, general diagnostic tool may not be able to pass through the security gateway, even if it can read codes but cannot perform any write operations, and cannot complete critical steps such as programming, matching, and resetting.
